Xbox-Produced “Atari: Game Over” Documentary Gets First Trailer

<div data-embed-type="video" data-src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIaWAyHIqok" data-width="854" data-height="480"><iframe src="//cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?src=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fembed%2FrIaWAyHIqok%3Fwmode%3Dopaque%26feature%3Doembed&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DrIaWAyHIqok&amp;image=http%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FrIaWAyHIqok%2Fhqdefault.jpg&amp;key=6efca6e5ad9640f180f14146a0bc1392&amp;type=text%2Fhtml&amp;schema=youtube" width="100%" height="100%" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div><p dir="ltr" style="">Microsoft has released a trailer for <em>Atari: Game Over</em>, the first part of its documentary series <em>Signal to Noise</em>.</p><p dir="ltr" style="">The Documentary tells the story of Atari, which went from being the fastest growing company in American history, to the producer of <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/e-t-the-extra-terrestrial/">E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial</a> for the Atari 2600, a game that failed so miserably Atari ended up burying thousands of unsold copies of it in a landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico.</p><p dir="ltr" style="">The movie features interviews with the creator of the game, Howard Warshaw, other Atari employees, and various people involved with <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/articles/buried-copies-of-failed-movie-game-e-t-have-been-found/1100-6419235/">the dig that unearthed the buried copies of the game back in April</a>.</p><p dir="ltr" style="">The documentary series was produced by Xbox Entertainment Studios, the division responsible for original Xbox programming, which Microsoft announced it was shutting down earlier this month.</p><p dir="ltr" style="">Microsoft has said that the shutdown will not impact <em>Signal to Noise</em>, as well as <em><a href="http://www.gamespot.com/articles/e3-2014-halo-5-s-mysterious-spartan-named-agent-locke-backstory-coming-in-nightfall/1100-6420433/">Halo: Nightfall</a></em>, Steven Spielberg's <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-tv-show-won-t-be-filler-microsoft-says/1100-6416982/">Halo TV series</a>, or <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-one-exclusive-quantum-break-s-live-action-sho/1100-6421215/">the live action TV show component</a> of the <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-one-exclusive-quantum-break-s-live-action-sho/1100-6421215/">Xbox One</a>-exclusive <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/quantum-break/">Quantum Break</a>.</p><p style=""><em>Atari: Game Over</em> is coming to Xbox this fall.</p><table data-max-width="true"><thead><tr><th scope="col"><em>Emanuel Maiberg is a freelance writer.
